Commander Joseph Popovich, left, and Quartermaster Mike Mauer, right, of V.F.W. Post 914 Intrepid of West Mifflin present a $300 donation to West Mifflin Area High School Titan Thunder Band Director Devon Smeal on May 5th. The funds are to help defray the band's costs for its upcoming trip to march at the Veteran's Day Parade in New York City on November 11th.
As a participant at the largest Veteran's Day Parade in the country, the Titan Thunder will march up the city's famed Fifth Avenue, past the reviewing stand at 42nd Street to 59th Street at Central Park. Smeal is hoping that his group will be one of the limited bands eligible for a past-parade standing performance on the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid - the greatest fighting ship that the West Mifflin V.F.W. post takes its name from.
