Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post 914 'Intrepid' West Mifflin is pleased to announce
the following winners of the Walter Kuczma Scholarship Award.
First Place: Caitlin O'Connor
Second Place: Sarah Kampert
Third Place: Whitney Thompson
The students were awarded prizes of $300, $200 and $100 respectively for their efforts.
The annual scholarship award is open to West Mifflin High School seniors who have had a family member serve in the armed forces of the United States. To qualify for the scholarship awards, participants were required to write a brief essay following the theme "How Should We Best Honor These Who've Defended Our Nation's Freedoms?"
The winners will receive their checks during a ceremony at 7 p.m. May 20th in the West Mifflin High School auditorium.
The annual scholarship is named after Walt Kuczma of West Mifflin, founder of V.F.W. Post 914 and a World War II veteran. Kuczma served on the famous aircraft carrier U.S.S. Intrepid when it was attacked by Japanese kamikazes in November 1944. |
