Five VFW Post 914 Members
Receive Congressional Recognition

Five life members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 914 'Intrepid' of West Mifflin have received certificates of special recognition from Congressman Mike Doyle for their volunteer efforts at Southwestern Veterans Center.  "As Representative of the 14th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, it gives me great pleasure to join with the Southwestern Veterans Center in
recognizing and commending these men for their exceptional efforts on behalf of our veterans," reads the citation presented to Dan Cunningham, Russ Emery, Jim Leerberg, Henry Lutz and Andy Yatsko.  Each was selected for volunteering more than 15 hours of service over the last 12 months to the approximately 235 fellow veterans who live at the area veterans' facility. The West Mifflin veterans' service organization earmarks nearly $1,500 of its annual budget to provide food, refreshments and fun for patients in local VA medical centers.  The five honorees comprised most of the post's recent volunteer efforts in organizing bingos and other activities.  Because of their work, scores of patients are treated to pizza, cookies, milk and soda at the Southwestern Veterans Center on Highland Drive in Pittsburgh, as well as other VA facilities.

Cunningham, Emery, Leerberg, Lutz and Yatsko will be presented their certificates of special recognition during the post's next monthly meeting 8 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the Thompson Run Athletic Association on Ball Avenue, West Mifflin.
