A $50 donation to the Mifflin Township Historical Society highlighted West Mifflin's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 914 Intrepid monthly meeting Jan. 26 at the Thompson Run Athletic Club.
Other items of business included the welcoming of new Iraqi Freedom post life member Maj. James Popa. Popa, who served 14 months of duty in Iraq, participated along with VFW Post 914 in this year's annual Memorial Day services at Lebanon Church Cemetery on Old Elizabeth Road, West Mifflin. He recently acted on the post's invitation to join its ranks and will be participating in a formal swearing in ceremony.
A benevolent service organization, the men of Post 914 regularly visit those in Veterans' Administration hospitals, provide veterans' affairs outreach to schools and participate in ceremonial events honoring veterans and their families. Additionally, the post sends telephone cards and packages to local veterans serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan.
