The members of West Mifflin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 914 'Intrepid' received a special donation that will soon grace Mitchell Paige Park at their monthly meeting Thursday Feb. 22. Pennsylvania House of Representatives member William C Kortz II presented the group with a United States, a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a POW/MIA flag.
"The flags at Mitchell Paige Park have taken a lot of bad weather recently," said Mike Mauer, VFW 914 Intrepid quartermaster. "Representative Kortz has not only done a service here today for we veterans, but also for all the citizens of West Mifflin."
In addition to the flags, Kortz also provided the post membership with veterans' service calendars. Each notes important patriotic events and holidays, as well as toll-free numbers to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and local organizations such as the VFW and American Legion.
The post quartermaster will present the flags to the West Mifflin Police Department, who will help ensure that worn ones flying above Mitchell Paige are replaced.
In other business, the post voted a monetary donation to help support the West Mifflin Youth Baseball League. |
