Helping those who've served the united States in times of conflict has been the business of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for more than a century. For West Mifflin's V.F.W. Post 914 Intrepid, that also means helping out its neighbors.
Robert Macey of the West Mifflin Community Foundation accepted a $100 donation August 3rd presented by Commander Joseph Popovich and Quartermaster Mike Mauer on behalf of VFW Post 914 Intrepid of West Mifflin. The post's members voted to provide the funds during their monthly meeting at the TRAA on July 29th.
As with other area property owners, local, state and federal politicians have been telling VFW Intrepid that no government money will be provided to help unless it is proven one of the government's entities is responsible for the property damage. VFW Post 914 Intrepid's contribution will go towards the $30,000 to $40,000 the foundation needs for a geotechnical survey to identify the problem causing the landslides.
Coffee cans with pictures of the erosion damage have been placed throughout the area to encourage donations. Additionally, contributions for the landslide victims can be sent to: The West Mifflin Community Foundation, c/o Century Heritage Federal Credit Union, 700 Regis Ave., West Mifflin, Pa 15236. |
