Over the years, the Peters Creek Historical Society has achieved many things, thanks to an energetic membership.  These achievements include:

  • An historic "Civil War Era Christmas" celebration at the Wright House for the public, complete with re-enactors and historical displays (2000).

  • The first "History Has A Holiday" Festival for the public. (1997)

  • Two "Celebrate Our Heritage" Historic House Tours for the public (1999 and 2001).

  • Annual conferral of the "Enoch Wright Lifetime Award for History Appreciation and Citizenship" upon local student winners of the National History Day Competition.  This is an on-going program that bestows a significant cash award together with several other memorable prizes.

  • Annual Antique/Classic/Hot Rod/Old Truck Benefit Car Shows which drew over 60 vintage vehicles and several hundred spectators. (2002 and 2002).

  • In 2001, the first weekend "Civil War Encampment," an actual "live-the-life" outdoor military experience at the Wright House for thirty sixth-, seventh- and eight-grade students from local schools.  The fourth annual event in 2004 enlisted fifty-five students!

  • Mingo Presbyterian Church plaque designating the importance of the meeting house during the Whiskey Rebellion (located on Route 88 approximately 1.8 miles south of Finleyville).

  • Archie Mathies Memorial plaque erected in Finleyville cemetery to honor the local WW II Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.

  • Fort Cox Plaque erected near the site of a stockade fort built in the 1780's to protect local settlers (located on Stone Church Rd. approximately 2.2 miles east of Finleyville.

  • Cincinnati Mine Disaster plaque erected near the mule entrance to the Cincinnati mine (located on Route 88 approximately 1/4 south of Mingo Church).

  • Wright House Museum located on Venetia Road approximately 1.5 miles west of Finleyville, and approximately 7.5 miles east of U.S. Route 19 (via Waterdam Road).
