in a relatively obscure branch of the family from the Pittsburgh area. Any

7. JOHANN GEORG6 THUMM III (JOHANN GEORG5, JOHANN GEORG4, GEORG ADAM3,
JOHANN ADAM2, GEORGE HEINDRICH1) was born September 09, 1842 in Scharnhausen,
Baden Wurttemberg, and died in Pittsburgh PA. He married LUISA CHRISTIANA
GALL in Economy PA, daughter of JOHANNES GALL and ANNA UNKNOWN. She was born
July 06, 1843 in Affalterbach, Marbach District, Baden Wurttemberg, and died
Bet. 1919 - 1920 in Pittsburgh PA.
Notes for JOHANN GEORG THUMM III:
Early records indicate that Johann moved to the Kanawha Valley from Beaver
County Pa to work for a short time at the salt furnace in Malden WV., before
returning to the Pittsburgh area to live out his life.
Listed in 1860 Alleghany County census is a G. THUMM living in Pittsburgh PA.
Became a US citizen in Allegheny County PA on 21 Aug 1878.
Listed in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Directories (1890) as Geo Thumm, 1718 Penn
Avenue, Pittsburgh PA; listed under occupation: "shoes". Also found recorded
as dealer in "Boots, Shoes and Rubbers", located at 692 Penn Avenue,
Pittsburgh, PA. on his business card.
OBIT: Pittsburgh Gazette, 16 Apr 1891(obtained from Carnegie Library,
Pittsburgh, PA):
THUMM on Tuesday, April 14, 1891 at 1:15 A. M., George Thumm aged 50
years, 9 months, and 1 day. Funeral services wil be held at his late
residence at 1718 Penn Avemue this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Friends of the
family and members of Teutonic Lodge #57 AAA and Goethe Lodge #58 A.C.U.W.
are respectfully invited to attend. ( this is unconfirmed as appropriate
obit; calculated age very close but not exact)
Possibly listed as attending the funeral of his brother Gottfried (Godfrey)
Thumm's widow's funeral on 17Mar1909 - Mr. and Mrs. John Thumm - although
this could have been his son and daughter-in-law; also possibly recorded as
sending flowers - "from Brother John" - although this could have been from
Rosina's brother.

Emigrated Mar 1844 from Affalterbach, Marbach Wuerttemberg; settled in
Economy, Beaver County PA, a bordering county to Butler. This was a religious
commune, founded by the followers of Georg Rapp, which frowned on sex and
marriage, dedicating their lives to the preparation for the second coming of
Christ. The family from Germany included Johannes b 6Jul1803 and wife Anna
Barbara b 8Jan1800, all born and christened in Affalterbach, Marbach
Wuerttemberg. They were accompanied by their children, also born in
Affalterbach, Dorthea Barbara b 13Feb1834, Magdalena Maria b 17Jan1837,
Johannes b 14May1839, Louisa Christiana, wife of Johann Georg III THUMM, b
6Jul1843 married in Economy PA and died before 1920 in Pittsburgh.
