I am trying to find a link between
John S. Barr and
John
Barr. John S. is the
grandson of John and my family
history says John came here in 1816.
But, after some research I have
found a John Barr in Mingo as early
as 1772 and owning a tract called
“Barrsville” in 1799. Since Barr is
a common name, I’m trying to link my
John Barr to the John Barr owning
Barrsville. I do know that my
family’s John Barr owned property on
Mingo Creek and My grandfather James
Albert Barr farmed it in the 1920’s.
This is the present location of
Ebenezer Bridge. I want to learn if
they John Barrs are the same person
or separate persons or if they were
related. My John Barr was born in
Ireland in 1757 and died here in
1838.
Any help in solving this would be
appreciated.

NILL;
BRANDSTETTER; EGGERT
about
Monongahela cemetery in North
Braddock. There I found a
ROBERT NILL stone with
PAULINE NILL (1864
- 1951).
After a
visit in Germany in 1932
unfortunately all contact was lost.
Are there any NILL descendants still
living around Braddock / North
Braddock / Pittsburgh?
Another
sister of Pauline, named Friederike
or "Ricke" Brandstetter (b: 28 JUN
1854) left for America, too.
She was
married to (..) EGGERT, but I don´t
have any information on her at all.

I have two
undated newspaper clippings, but suspect
they are from the late 19th or early
20th century, regarding a claim of
ownership of property in Hays Borough.
One article states in part: "L.A.
Bronson, who keeps a small grocery
store at East McKeesport, is on the
verge of becoming the richest man in the
town and expects to soon share in the
distribution of an estate valued at
$10,000,000. The estate in question
consists of 850 acres of ground, much of
it unimproved with buildings in the
borough of Hays and was owned by Mr.
Bronson's grandfather, the late Col.
George McLaughlin. The land was
acquired by Bronson's grandfather
through a colonial right bestowed during
the French and Indian War by the British
government." Bronson was a brother of my
great grandfather, Andrew Jackson
Bronson. I'm hoping to find the dates of
the newspaper articles along with more
information on the family in Allegheny
County. If anyone has any information or
suggestions on how to pursue this matter
please let me know.
Thanks, John M Dooley Davenport Iowa

I am researching the
BRADLEY family of Pittsburgh, PA.
Charles Bradley was born 1797 and
married Margaretta Foreman, born 1800 in
Ohio. He worked as a ship carpenter on
the Ohio River. They had Joseph
Bradley who married Ellen in 1824, and
they had Annie, George, Joseph L., and
Webster Bradley. I can track Joseph and
Ellen as far as the 1870 census and
believe they probably died between 1870
and 1880 and are buried in Pittsburgh,
perhaps in Allegheny Cemetery or
Southside Cemetery. He was a nail-cutter
at Jones.

I am researching the

lived on Lawn St. in Pittsburgh, PA.
Josef Blachut married Wanda Niedabylek

and her infant daughter were killed in a

I am trying to
trace what Native American blood may have been in my
maternal grandfather's history. Family stories
recall him claiming to be 1/8 Indian, but no one
recalls what tribe. His name was Alvin Harlan
Bowser and he lived in and around Kittanning, PA
all his life (9/28/1885 - 4/6/1964).
His father was John M. Bowser and his mother was
Matilda (Booher) Bowser. I believe the Indian
blood may have been in Matlilda's family, as she was
dark and had high cheeks bones and a prominent nose
similar to that I've seen in many picutes of
full-blooded Native Americans.
I also remember hearing stories that we have some
Cajun ancestry (which I believe is a mix of
French-Canadian and Indian blood), but I don't know
anything more about that possibility.
Anyone with any info about the Native American
ancestry of Alvin Bowser, please contact me at: mgosma@indy.rr.com

I am trying to find
any information about members of my Grandmother's family
who left England for Pennsylvania at the turn of the last
century.
Her uncle George
BUNN (born 1864 - Kidsgrove, Staffordshire), a farmer,
left England in 1893 and settled in Swissvale.
In 1902, my Grandmother's eldest brother William (Billy)
BUNN (born 1882) joined him. Billy was also a farmer
and had been living in Congleton, Cheshire. We
believe Billy eventually settled in Mississippi.
In 1913 George
visited his family in England. By this time he was a
widower. He seems to have had a daughter named
Florence. He gave his address as Park Avenue,
Swissvale. Does anyone have any information about
this family?

I am researching both the Weigand &
Baumgartner families, my grandfather was Cyril Weigand, his parents
(my great-grandparents) were Ambrose Weigand & Josephine Hinkel
Weigand. They were from Baden, Germany and they lived on Spring Hill
(Diana St) until the early 1940' when they both passed away. Ambrose
Weigand was born in 1862 and died in 1941, I don't know if he was born in
the U.S. or in Germany. Ambrose was a cabinet maker, he had 4
brothers, Conrad - born in 1850, Albert, Felix, Vincent - born in 1857,
and a sister, Eleanora Weigand Mueller who had a son named Henry Mueller.
I am also trying to do research on my grandmother's family, she was
Eleanor Baumgartner Weigand, her father was Charles Baumgartner born in
1868, in Baden Germany and her mother was Catherine born around 1872???.
Charles Baumgartner was a tailor and the family lived on Spring Hill (at
the bottom of Itin St). They were also members of St. Mary's Roman
Catholic Church on the NorthSide which is now closed. Any information on either family would be greatly appreciated AMERS8181@aol.com
